Boulder Hair Salon's Trend Forecast

Times are changing, pages are turning and winter is deepening quickly towards the end of the year. I’m pretty sure this is going to be one of the most celebrated new years yet (at home and safely distanced, that is). Good riddance, 2020!

Naturally, as a new year approaches we begin to reflect on what we’d like to change and the versions of ourselves we’re ready to shed. Perhaps you’re ready to get out of the quarantine rut many of us are feeling, and finally stop wearing the same tired sweats and unruly hair.

Here at Voodoo we understand how transforming or altering seemingly small things such as your style or your hair can positively impact your psyche and the way you tackle life. Each time our clients leave with a fresh head of hair, we witness their small rebirths and reinventions.

So let’s make room for the new with a more refined version of you.

We thought it’d be fun to investigate the trending looks of the season, and pair them with Voodoo’s very own stylists who’d be sure to kill the look.

Hair Trends Hitting Boulder Winter of 2021

We got you!

Face-Framing Highlights

In case you haven’t noticed, the 90’s are back now more than ever, and these face-framing highlights are so reminiscent of the era. Try this look out by adding some chunky strands of color around the face—whether that be something more natural like a light brown or blonde, or a more dramatic, fun shade such as a pink or blue.

Cinnamon Balayage

If you’re a brunette looking to bring some spice to your look, then the cinnamon balayage could be just the right thing to try for the holidays. This style is accomplished by applying a pop of red hues to your brown, resulting in brighter and more dimensional locks.

(Book this as a full balayage when calling or booking online).

Rooted Blonde

Going blonde just got a little easier now that the rooted look is in. Skip the frequent upkeep (and save a lot of money!) by letting your darker roots grow out after going blonde, resulting with an interesting contrast between the two. It’s “bronde!”

French Bob

So maybe we can’t travel to France, but we can bring France to Boulder with this adorable bob. This shorter and tousled variation of a bob trended strongly in the fall and is maintaining its popularity through winter. I mean, how cute is a bob and a beanie? The great thing about this cut is it’s low-maintenance for those with wavy hair since its layers give it an effortless, bedhead look. But, if you have sleeker hair, you can still style it to your liking with some of our texturizing products such as Kevin Murphy Bedroom Hair and Unite’s Texturiza spray or Beach Day Spray (available at Voodoo for purchase/pick-up).

The Shag (Gateway Drug to the Mullet)

The 70’s are back with the versatile shag. The shag is a choppy-style haircut that gives layers of volume to the hair while closely framing the face. It’s the effortless, bed-head look, best-suited for textured hair. However, the shag is wonderfully adaptive and can also be worn straight.

The Mullet

Yes, you read that right and we are here for it! The Mullet is back and here to rock. Most recently and notably worn by Miley Cyrus, the mullet has slowly but surely made its way to a city near you, and we’re not mad about Boulder gaining some edge with this cut.
